# Welcome! Source: https://docs.lanetrax.app/getting-started Get a brief overview of LaneTrax's features, and how to use them. *** **LaneTrax** is an AI-powered bowling performance tracking system that transforms your iPhone into a pro-level tracking tool. It captures your throws and instantly provides detailed analytics, including metrics like ball speed, entry angle, rev rate, and breakpoint board. With over **15 key metrics** at your fingertips, LaneTrax gives you a complete picture of every shot. ## Getting Started Download lanetrax on the app store [here.](here.) Mount your iPhone on a stable tripod with a clear view of the lane and pins. When you open the app, you can jump right into a new session. Right now there are only two session modes. The first is "Classic Mode," which tracks every shot that is thrown on the selected lane. The second mode is "League Mode" which will track only your shots. Once you start a new session, follow the on-screen instructions to automatically detect the lane. **DOs and DON'Ts for optimal lane detection:** **DOs:** * Make sure the camera is fully zoomed into the lane (the bottom of the lane should be above the "Detect Lane" button, and the top of the pins should be near the top of the camera feed). * Make sure a full rack of pins (all ten pins) is present * For setting up the tripod, make sure it is aligned with the right gutter for righties, and the left gutter for lefties. This is to ensure your body does not block the camera from seeing your ball on the lane * The tirpod should be well behind the end of approach behind the ball return, and setup as high as possible. **DONT's:** * DON'T place the camera directly behind the lane (as the bowler may obstruct the view of the ball) * DON'T have the camera zoomed too far out. * DON'T have the tripod too far left or right of your lane. (i.e. don't place the tripod in another lane) Once you've detected the lane ([automatically or manually](/ios/newsessions/lane-selection)). LaneTrax automatically detects and records each shot instantly, providing real-time metrics. Don't feel like going back to your phone every time to check? Check your session summary in the app and explore detailed analytics on the [LaneTrax web app](https://bowl.lanetrax.app). ## FAQ LaneTrax is an AI-powered mobile application that transforms your iPhone into a professional bowling performance tracker. This section explains the statistics, lane trajectories, and interactive features in Classic Mode. ## Interactive Features
Hold down on the tiles to move them or swap them out for other metrics! Customize them to prioritize the stats that matter most to you.
Near the top, where it displays your shot number, you can easily revisit previous shots and delete them if needed. To delete a shot, hold down on the number!
By holding down on the lane diagram, you can select which trajectories you want to view—strikes, spares, missed strikes, or any combination thereof.
Click on any tile to open a detailed graph showing that statistic’s trend throughout your session. Observe how it changes—or remains consistent—across your throws!
By default, Spares, Made Strikes, and Missed Strikes are all enabled! On the lane, each shot appears in a distinct color. Green shots are a strike, blue shots are missed strikes, and black shots are spare attempts. *** ## Tiles and Statistics Click on a block to jump to its explanation, or use the side bar on the right for quick navigation. *** ### Foul Line * This statistic shows the board where the bowling ball crosses the lane at the foul line. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Arrows * This statistic shows the ball’s board position when crossing the arrows (e.g., board 7.5 or board 9.0), offering a numeric reference for initial aim and alignment. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Entry Board * The entry board is the specific board number at which the ball enters the pocket (the headpin and its adjacent pin). The ideal entry board is commonly board 17.5 for right-handers. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Hook Factor * Hook factor describes the degree to which a bowling ball curves or “hooks” as it travels down the lane. * Quantified by measuring the rate of lateral acceleration during the ball’s hook phase, in boards per second squared. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Breakpoint Board * The breakpoint board is the lane board where the ball reaches its maximum lateral deviation before hooking back toward the center of the lane. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Breakpoint Distance * Breakpoint distance is the linear distance from the foul line to the point where the ball reaches its breakpoint. * It tells bowlers how far down the lane the ball travels before beginning its hook. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Launch Angle * Launch angle is the initial angle at which the ball leaves the bowler’s hand relative to a line parallel to the lane's boards. * A zero-degree launch angle means a straight path, whereas a positive angle causes the ball to start curving either inward or outward. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Impact Angle * Also called the entry angle, impact angle is the angle at which the ball contacts the pins as it enters the pocket. The optimal impact angle is 6 degrees. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Launch Speed * Launch speed is the velocity of the ball at the moment it is released by the bowler. * It represents the highest speed the ball achieves during its journey down the lane, before friction slows it down. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Impact Speed * Impact speed is the speed of the ball at the moment it strikes the pins. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Average Speed * Average speed is the overall speed of the ball calculated over the entire distance from release to pin impact. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Hook Boards * Hook boards describe the number of lane boards the ball moves laterally from its breakpoint to the point of entry into the pocket. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Max Speed Loss * Max speed loss refers to the point along the lane where the ball experiences its greatest reduction in speed—typically the moment when the ball’s reaction transitions from smooth skid to aggressive hook. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Speed Loss * Speed loss is the overall reduction in the ball’s velocity from the moment of release to when it hits the pins. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### Shot Time * Shot time is the total time elapsed from when the ball is released until it strikes the pins. [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) ### RPM * This statistic is calculated by LOOKING at your ball and determining how fast the rev rate is in RPM! [Back to Cards](#tiles-and-statistics) # Lane Selection Source: https://docs.lanetrax.app/ios/newsessions/lane-selection ## Automatic Detection & Manual Detection LaneTrax uses AI-powered automatic detection as the default method for identifying the correct lane. This process quickly and accurately detects the lane so that all subsequent shot data is captured without manual intervention. Manual lane selection should only be used if, for some reason, the automatic detection fails to correctly identify your lane. In such cases, you can manually select the lane to ensure accurate tracking. This option is provided as a reliable fallback.
Click "Detect Lane" to automatically detect the lane! Make sure the entire lane is visible and that you're zoomed in enough (the lane should be at least 25% of the screen), and also make sure that there's a full rack of pins up!
Drag each of the four corners to align with the four corners of the lane! The top of the lane should be aligned with the bottom of the headpin. Make sure you're zoomed in enough (the lane should be at least 25% of the screen)
### **DOs and DON'Ts for optimal lane detection:** **DOs:** * Make sure the camera is fully zoomed into the lane (the bottom of the lane should be right above the "Detect Lane" button, as thats where the camera feed ends, and the top of the pins should be near the top of the camera feed). * Make sure the camera is as high as it can be, and as far back as it can be (while still being able to zoom in all the way) **DONT's:** * DON'T place the camera directly behind the lane (as the bowler may obstruct the view of the ball) * DON'T have the camera zoomed too far out. * DON'T have the tripod too far left or right of your lane. (i.e. don't place the tripod in another lane) # League Mode Source: https://docs.lanetrax.app/ios/newsessions/league-mode Bowling with other people? League Mode lets you track just your shots!

Return to the calendar view. 2. **Press and hold** the session entry you wish to delete. 3. Confirm when prompted to permanently erase it. DELETING A SESSION IS **PERMANENT** AND CANNOT BE UNDONE. # Settings Source: https://docs.lanetrax.app/ios/settings *** In the settings menu, there are several settings that you should be aware of.
## Handedness Changing the 'handedness' setting to 'Right' or 'Left" will depend on your bowling style and will affect the statistics. If you are a right-handed bowler, you should choose the 'Right' setting (the ball hooks to the LEFT), whereas if you are a left-handed bowler (the ball hooks to the RIGHT), you should choose the 'Left' setting for accurate measurements. ## Units You can change the units for speed to Miles Per Hour (mph), Kilometers Per Hour (kph), or Meters Per Second (m/s). Similarly, you can change the units for distance to be in feet or meters. ## Confidence Threshold The default confidence threshold is 40%, meaning the camera will only register shots that have a 40% confidence. Altering this too much may significantly impact your experience. If you lower the confidence, you may experience the camera tracking false shots. If you increase the confidence, it may not be able to track normal shots as well. ## Setup Guide Turn this setting off if you want the pop-up of the tripod/camera setup guide next time you start a new session. ## Shot Processor Changing how long the save time is will change how long the shot takes after your ball hits the pins to detect if it was a strike, missed strike, or a spare attempt. If you have a fast pinsetter, please decrease this time. On the other hand, if you have a slow pinsetter, please increase this time. ## Camera Feed ### Size Changing this value between "Low", "Medium", and "High" will change the resolution of the camera feed that the AI model uses. A lower resolution may be useful for an extended battery life, but a higher resolution may be more accurate. ### Box Stroke This setting is only for visual purposes; changing this value will only impact the thickness of the lines drawn on the camera feed (e.g. the bounding boxes of the ball and the pins or the outline of the lane) If you've altered some settings and do not remember what the defaults were, scroll to the bottom of the settings menu and click "Reset All Settings to Defaults". ## Advanced Settings CAUTION: Entering and changing any advanced settings may significantly reduce app performance. You should not change anything in advanced settings unless a LaneTrax team member tells you to do so. # Quickstart Source: https://docs.lanetrax.app/quickstart Get an overview of LaneTrax.
